End of My 1st Semester

YESS!!... I finally did it!  I made it through my first semester of college.  It was very difficult in the beginning of the semseter, but it got easier later on.  I was very excited to start college but at the same time scared.  I didn't know what was going to happen.  Moving into the dorms, meeting new people,  and doing things for myself was the biggest change for me.

Although I live here in the islands, it's still hard for me to leave home and be away from my family.  I'm used to them always being there for me.  But now that I'm in college, I know that they aren't going to do things for me anymore and that I have to start doing everything by myself.  When I first moved into the dorms, I got caught up in the whole excitement of "being on my own" that I forgot to call my family for 2 weeks.  There was tension during that time because my family felt unappreciated and that I wanted to exclude them from my life.  Of course that wasn't true because if it wasn't for my family, I wouldn't be here in college!  So, we had a big talk about me calling at least once in a while to update them on things.  So advice, include your family in your life, even though you are "on your own" because they really care for you and it would be nice for you to let them know what's going on in your life.  Just hearing from you is all they need!

Also, meeting new people and doing things for myself was a little difficult for me.  I'm so used to the friends that I had in high school and doing things routinely.  When I moved to college, I had to do everything on my own and start to put myself a little out there to others.  I don't really prefer to put myself out there because I can be shy.  But I discovered the "outgoing" part of me.  I met a group friends that I pretty much hang out with almost everyday.  We enjoy each others company and just take care of each other.  It's such a strong bond and I'm blessed to have found thsi group of friends who I know will get my back.  I never had such a strong bond with a group of people previous to college and they definitely make my college experience more awesome!  Another word of advice, get out there and meet as much people as you can.  Don't limit yourself because there are so many incredible people out there, you just have to find them!

I have been through so much this past semester including my College Opportunites Program.  Without them, I wouldn't be attending the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.  But, everything I have been through such as my first job, drama between friends, eating a lot, school work, time management, and many more have taught me so much.  This first semester was definitely a learning period to better prepare me for my future semesters.  I can honestly say that college is HARD, but I LOVE IT!!  I know that sounds weird, but how can you become a better person if you don't put yourself through challenges?  By putting myself through challenges and learning from my mistakes, I can better prepare myself for anything as well as, make myself a better person.  If you're better prepared, you can prety much handle any unexpected obstacle that you might have to face later on through life.  So, college is going to be a challenge and learning from it can only benefit you in the long run.  Just make the best of everything!!!!

Last Week of Finals

This was my last week of finals...YAY!!  I'm so happy theverything from the first semester is over!!  It's been very  long week and it feels good to have gotten it over with.  I only had two finals to take this semester, which were my Hawaiian Studies class an dmy Human Development class.

First I had my Human Development exam.  I knew that I was borederline with my grades in that class, so I knew that I really had to study hard for this final to my A.  This time around, I decided to try and study by myself to see how I do.  I'm still in the process of finding the right studying method for me.  Any ways, I've been gradually studying throughout the weekend and a little before.   Then the final came on Tuesday.  We got our grades on Wednesday and I found out that I got a B on the final and came 3 points short of the grade I really wanted.  Kinda junk!  But, at least I know next time to be more prepared and study harder!

The second final was my Hawaiian Studies class.  I was in the same situation with my grades for this exam.  But I had to pretty much get a perfect on this final to get an A in the class.  So the pressure was definitely on!!  Well I pulled an all nighter trying to study for the exam.  My friend stayed up with me to try and test me, I thank her for that!  But any ways, it was test day.  I was walking to class and totally got rained on!!  Like, all my clothes were dripping wet  and when I got into the class, you could hear people saying, "oOoo!"  Yah, they knew it sucked!  But oh well, that kinda stuff happens a lot in Manoa because weather is unpredictable!  Any ways, I took my final and I don't think I did that great because I didn't go over some of the things that were on the exam that I knew I should have reviewed.  But we'll see what I get for that class later on.

Well, WHAT"S DONE IS DONE!!....and now time to enjoy my break!!...FOSHO!!!!

My Date

Earlier this week, I was set up by my friends to go on a date.  I have never been on a date or gone out with anyone before, so this was very different for me.  When I found out that I was going on a date, I really didn’t want to.  I’m not the type of person to put myself out there when it comes to guys.  But, I thought that I should just go because…I don’t know…in college, you’re supposed to try new things.  So I decided to just go, it wouldn’t hurt to try.

My date picked me up from my dorm (in his really nice car, by the way) and we went to this place in Waikiki called Cheeseburger Paradise.  I ordered the Mahi Mahi Sandwich and her ordered Fried Coconut Shrimp.  Honestly, the food wasn’t the best that I’ve tasted, but I have to say that the service was great…haha. The waiter that we had was very friendly.  During dinner, we decided that we would have been good with Subway =P

Any ways, overall the date went pretty good.  We got to talk a little a bit, but for me it was kind of awkward most of the time.  I wouldn’t know what to talk about majority of the time, so I think I kind of embarrassed myself…haha.  Oh well, if I do find a guy for me it would be someone that I can be my crazy self with and I would feel more comfortable with him.  I’m not trying to say my date was bad, he was actually great.  And if he was willing to go on a second date, I would!  But yes that was my first date experience, pretty short, a little awkward at times, but pretty fun at the same time!
