More Post-'Potter' Reading

What's with all this anonymity, people?! Post your first names, please, for eternal fame and glory. (Or nicknames, if you have a funny one like Schmoopy. Not that I would know.)

I'm 13 and whenever I look up books that you and other people recommend some come up as adult books. So I was wondering if you could tell me if 'To Kill A Mockingbird' and/or 'Catcher in the Rye' are acceptable books for a girl my age to read?

Cari

I first read 'To Kill A Mockingbird' as a class assigment in 8th grade and 'Catcher in the Rye' in 11th grade. I think you could definitely read 'Mockingbird' now and maybe read 'Catcher' in a year or two.

'The Golden Compass' by Philip Pullman has two sequels, 'The Subtle Knife' and 'The Amber Sypglass.' I don't want to sound like a know-it-all but those two are also very good if you enjoy reading that is. Thank you for the reccomendations.

I would recomend the 'Maximum Ride' series by James Patterson for anyone who likes lots of action.

Stephenie Meyer is awesome! Her third book came out Aug. 7. I am obsessed with this series as much as most people I know are obsessed with 'Harry Potter.' The characters are lovable and the plot is so fascinating; you will be downing all 600+ pages of 'Twilight' in less than a day, like I did!

As crazy as I was as the rest of you about the last 'Harry Potter' book coming out and as much as I love them ... I just would like to add another fantasy series that (don't kill me) has taken the top notch on the all-time favorites list. The 'Shannara' books by Terry Brooks. There are already 15 to 16 books in the series with another one coming out in August.

Some other really good books that I like as well as 'Harry Potter' are: 'Artemis Fowl' by Eoin Colfer, 'Pendragon' by D.J. Machale, 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' by Rick Riordan and 'Eragon' by Christopher Paoilini.

I have loved fantasy for a very long time, so I was pleased to find 'Harry Potter,' a sustained series that took fantasy in a whole new direction. It's sad that it's over, but all good things must come to an end, as they say!  Currently, I am nursing my wounds with another new (unfinished) series called 'Tales of the Dark Kensai,' starting with 'Origin of the Sword Saint' and then 'Quest of the Sword Saint,' by Anthony Cirilla. These are set in a fantasy world, and they're REALLY great reads for lovers of HP, other fantasy series, or just avid readers in general.

A great series is the 'Pendragon' books by D.J. Mchale. It is a 10-book series and a very good read!

The 'Shadow Children' series by Margaret Peterson Haddix: Imagine a world where families are allowed only two children. Illegal third children (shadow children) must live in hiding, for if they are discovered there is only one punishment: death.

'The Wheel of Time' series by Robert Jordan

A good book to read over the summer is 'The Alchemyst' by Michael Scott. It's one of THE BEST fantasy books EVER. after 'Harry Potter,' of course.

How do you post reader recommendations?

Do you post them as comments, or is there an e-mail address?

Thanks, and keep up the good work.
