RED Readers Recommend

Two of my favorite books are 'Monster' by Walter Dean Myers and 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee. They are both super good books and I plan on reading them again. 'To Kill a Mockingbird' took me awhile to read but it was really good. 'Monster' is about this 16-year-old boy who is accused of a crime that he didn-t do. It tells the story from his side. I totally encourage everyone to read it. It's really good. :)

I just finished 'Avalon High' by Meg Cabot and I <3 it! It was different, but really interesting. I heard there was a sequel coming out in July, too, so I'm keeping my eyes open for that!

I have to read 'Eva' and 'October Sky' for my summer reading. I already finished 'Eva' and I loved it. It had so many connections to our lives now. Now I'm in the middle of 'October Sky' and I like it even more than 'Eva.' I plan to watch the movie after I finish reading and doing my journals.

I love tons of different genres. Especially fantasy books so 'Harry Potter' and 'Lord of the Rings' are my faves. I even have a life-sized cut-out of Legolas. But realistic fiction books are great too. I also like classics like 'Jane Eyre' and 'To Kill a Mockingbird.'

Cari
Hahaha, we bought Kori that same life-sized cut-out of Legolas for her birthday! AWESOME.

Although I am not a reader by any stretch of the imagination [sorry ;)], I've been reading 'Keeping Faith' by Jodi Picoult, who is one of my favorite authors. 'Keeping Faith' is awesome so far, and it is so hard to put down, mainly because it tests the religious boundaries of the common world. Highly suggested!

I started the 'Uglies' series just a few days ago, and I'm amazed at how good they are. It's not (by any means) a normal future/sci fi novel. It's so different, it seems real! I was reading and I was like "Oh my God, I can't believe all this is gonna happen in the future!" Then I had to remember it was just a book and it wasn't real =] I also read "A Mango-Shaped Space" by Wendy Mass recently. It's amazing! I would recommend it to anyone.

You should have put 'Twilight' and 'New Moon' by Stephenie Meyer on there.  'Eclipse' is coming out in August. Those are the best books EVER!!!!

Cari
Trust me -- they pretty much come up every day. I don't think there are any books more mentioned in this blog than them!

I love Frank Peretti. So far this summer, I have read three of his books: 'House,' 'Hangman's Curse' and 'Nighhtmare Academy.' 'Hangman's Curse' has been made into an awesome movie too!

My favorite books are 'The Chronicles of Narnia' by C. S. Lewis.  This book  has all the chronicles put into it from begining and end.  The next book I am reading is called 'Dicey's Song' by Cinthia Voigot.  The next book is my number one favorite im still reading it though, but I still highly recomend it to anyone who likes to read.  It is called 'Inkheart' by Cornelia Funke.  It will soon be a mojor motion icture but I recomend reading the book before seeing the movie.  You just get sucked into those pages!

I'm so excited for the 7th Harry Potter book! It will answer all my questions from the previous books!
Posted on July 3, 2007 at 9:01 AM by Eliza
I read non-stop, every second of my life.  My friends' best memories of me this year in high school? "...her nose always in a book..." Anyway, if you really want to read something fascinating, A "Tale of Two Cities" is amazing.  But it is a little complicated for readers who don't like to read a lot.  To them I would recommend "A SIngle Shard", or a Nancy Drew mystery book.

I love Stephenie Meyer's books 'Twilight' and 'New Moon'! They are my all time favorites!! I also love Jane Austen! I have read most of her books except 'Emma'.  I also grew up on Harry Potter and I am soooo excited about the new book!!

I think that you should add anything by Amelia-Atwater Rhodes on there...she's amazing...I have almost all her books...There are so many books I could suggest...Like Dean Koontz Lightning and Stephanie Myer books...also if you like fantasy...try looking up Beauty and the beast remakes...their really good.
"THE STAND"
Posted on July 3, 2007 at 10:02 AM by Katie

I am about half-way through my book, "the Stand" by Stephen King. It is not like most of his books that are all about killing, it has substance. It is about a deadly disease that wipes out lots of people, leaving only a little amount of people left in the world. It is really fun to read but I must say that there is some raunchy parts so some people should NOT read it. I'd give it probably a PG-13 rating.
So if you want a book not like the rest, pick it up. I love it!

ps. read the unabridged version. lots of detail. I love it.

I was never one to read more than I had to, but when my friend told me about all of Tamora Peirce's series of books, they are AMAZING! I've gone through almost eight of the books this year alone. They are great fantasy books filled with adventure and romance. The Alanna series is about a girl who pretends to be a boy to go through knight hood (yes, it's based in older ages) and along the way she meets many diferent kinds of friends who help her get through the troubles she faces. The rest of the books are just as exciting some may be even more! You have to read them---you won't regret it!

Okay, so I know I comment a ton, but what can I say?  I read sooo many books. The three I just read were all really good.  I decided this time to go out of the "Common Reader's Choices" and chose books that you don't normally hear about people reading.  So here they are.  "Two-Way Street" by Lauren Barnholdt, and it is about a girl who has to go on a roadtrip to get to college with her ex-boyfriend who broke up with her without much of an explaination.  Its super good.  The next one is "So Inn Love" by Catherine Clark and it is about a girl who works at an Inn on the beach for the summer and finds a slightly unexpected love.  It was my least favorite of the three but it was still really good and you should still read it.  The last one is "Art Geeks and Prom Queens" by Alyson Noel, and it was my ultimate favorite of the three.  It was a novel that showed the hardships of high school and how sometimes being part of the greatest clique in the school isn't so great.  It was fantastic and I HIGHLY recommend it.  Well, there you go! :)

The Thirteenth Tale

Have you read The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield? It's a great book and I love it so much. It's really diferent and kind of a weird way to look at life, but it really makes you think. It's kind of a mystery because you are trying to find out about this woman's life and trying to find out if she's lying or not, but it is so good. You have a really hard time trying to put it down.

In response to Emily's question, yes! I loved the City of Ember By Jeanne DuPrau! It was a very good book with an extremely cliff-hangered ending! The second one (The People of Sparks) was good, too. Not as good I think, but still good. I have not yet had a chance to read the third one (The Prophet of Yonwood), but I'm hoping it is as good as the first!

To me Harry Potter is the best thing that ever happened to me ever since the first book came out. But I have not seen the movie yet but I am dying to. Not only that the book to come out. I'm just absolutely in love with everything that came out to do with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. And lastly its been my dream to hang out with all three of them.

First Harry Potter and now Nancy Drew
Posted on July 15, 2007 at 10:21 AM by DoberDog

I'm from Indiana.  I went from hardly reading at all to reading ALL of the Harry Potter books.  When stuff gets too heavy around the house with the family, I can always tune out and read.  It also passes the time when my family goes on long car trips!

Right now, I'm visiting my Aunt and Uncle in Virginia, and my aunt gave me the first one of the Nancy Drew mysteries to try.  She thought maybe it'd be too old fashioned for me, but I thought it was a fast exciting read.  I'm now gobbling up the Nancy Drew books.  (I'm now on #4.)  I make my aunt and uncle stop at flea markets and antiuew barns and look for more books.  I've found about a dozen.  Try them, maybe you'll like them too.  I;'m hoping my parents will let me go see the Nancy Drew movie that's out now.  I know it won't be the same as the books, but I want to see it.

Any other Nancy fans out there???

I think the following  thing will happen in book7 of hp. /*

-Ron and hermoine get together

-neville finds out that trevor is actually an animagus, who turns out to be his grandma.

-harry kills voldemort.

-sirius isn't actually dead, and is just following Harry around under an invisability cloak

-lupin finds out the cure to being a werwolf is eating cocroach clusters.

-It turns out harry's parent's aren't dead. Lily is Hedwig. She became an animagus too. James just does what I think sirius does, and follows him under a cloak.

twilight & new moon by stephenie meyer are the best books i have ever read in my entire life. they are so incredibly amazing. u can't put them down. i find myself thinking about one of the main characters:edward, all the time. everytime i go to do something, it doesnt matter what. i can even just be sitting in my room listening to music and i think about what would happen if i was bella(the other main character) and edward was with me, what would happen if we were in the same situation? i am completely obsessed and it is a little pathetic, i am aware of that, but i have never read something with so much emotion and and romance and suspense. ever since i have read them, my life has seemed to be about them. please read them, i swear they will change the way u look at things. and also the third book, eclipse is coming out on august 7th.
Books!

I have read so man books  so far in my life, its hard to even count!

im definetly not going to list all the books i read soooo here is some that i read for summer reading

Lord of the Flies  ( a group of english schoolboys stranded on an island learn to fend for themselves; a classic; it was good)

Night ( an autobiography about the author living the Holocaust; very good)

The Pearl ( a person finds a pearl in the ocean and it changes his life drastically; good; very short;)

Animal Farm ( an adult fairy tale about animals taking over a farm, with a scary twist at the end; very good)

this wasnt for summer reading, but i feel it appropriate to include it.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: i think this was the best of the hp series. i did almost cry at the end. im not giving anything away, but it was just so much sadness, knowing that there isnt any more harry potter books coming out, and its good to believe in something out of the ordinary, to get your mind off of life's daily heartaches. harry potter will always be with me! and i do believe in anything fantasy!

The most depressing part of reading harry potter is knowing that it's over. So I'm going to re-read them all over again as a remedy.

I think the 5th harry potter move was awsome. I wish that they put a little more of the facts that where i9n the book. I think that in the 7th book that dombledore is relly dead and so is sirrus. Also that in the end you find out that snape is relley on the good side and dombledore told him to do that stuff. Also that harry's scare is a horcrux and he must die in order to kill vlodermold but he still lives. I think that he should get together with ginny and ron and hemione should get together and they are all family. I also think that nevil will be heroic and some of the main friend and something else might happen to fred or george.but no one knows untill it comes

Books that aren't well known but should be!!

A truly great read is The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards.  This book is absolutely fantastic and I'm not even done yet, which is good because I really don't want to stop!! Her book usually graces the shelves of the "Best Sellers" section!! I also love Stephenie Meyer's books (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse), even though they are usually mentioned frequently by a large amount of people. Another great author that is never mentioned is Ellen Hopkins.  She has written three great books: Crank, Burned, and Impulse. They're not in a series, so don't worry about reading them in any particular order. Please PLEASE read any of the aformentioned books!! You will NOT be disappointed!!
